However, there may have been a greater clamour media wise if such a comment had been uttered by a white person, especially a Tory, and there's the rub.

Why was she "treated so leniently"? It wasn't exactly a hanging offence, was it? She will have that conditional discharge hanging over her for at least the next year, she has been financially penalised, and she now has a criminal record.
Not too bad for having uttered one word out of place, I'd say.

Not much coalition going on here then
Maybe its me, but Im speechless over this (well nearly) - pure Alice in Wonderland - ". A councillor has been found guilty of racial harassment after she called a political opponent a "coconut“ - “Brown, who is black, had pleaded not guilty to the charge.” - “Judge gave Brown a 12-month conditional discharge” unbelievable - except it happened - unless I wake up later ?

Leniently?
What do you think would happen if a white person had called an Asian a '***'?
Do you have any links to comparable cases?
By the way, I thought the agreed line was "Only white people are ever accused of racism".
How did this case even get to court if that was true?
Do this conviction possibly mean that the "Oh it's not fair...the blacks never get accused of racism" line might not hold water?
