so is "Call me David" finally showing his Thatcherite traits?
On Sky News this morning, his Chancellor, George Osborne was said to have ducked and dived in a Q and A session regarding child benefit and winter fuel payments, it is thought that the latter will now only be paid to the 66+ pensioners and not 60 as it is now, the child benefits will be reduced for the 2/3/4 child or more, which tbh cant be a bad thing, this may or may not stop the young girls going on to mass produce often with a different father each time.
It appears the elderly and the young are always the soft targets, why not the fat cats and the MPs contribute to the austerity cuts we are about to have? and catch up with the Tax evaders who don't pay a penny in revenue here....because the old and young don't shout so it's an easy option?

We have been living on "tick" for the past decade and we, as a country, are skint.Everybody will feel the pinch, rich, poor, middle classes and the worst is yet to come. The big cuts will come after January 2010.
You mention the poor and the elderly, but the middle classes are also moaning but the rich will always rich and the poor will always be poor.

Morning sqad x
the television debates pre election showed DC to categorically rule out such cuts as I have mentioned, yes we are in debt and I accept this, knowing that things will get worse in January what the vat increases, we all know it will be painful but everyone was assured that thes things wouldn't be 'attacked' and now?

I agree with we all having to tighten our belts, we can't afford to go on spending what we don't have, and I agree too with ummm that means testing should be done but they have ruled that out.
Hopkirk, pensioners are living longer now which is why the retirement age will go up bearing in mind , a lot of pensioners didn't want to finish at 60 (women) or the men at 65, but were forced into it by the system at the time

So I take it you are a pensioner, Bobby, who really needs your winter fuel payment? The 'Fat Cats' generate wealth, they provide thousands of jobs, they pay huge taxes, and they take nothing from the system. Likewise, the middle classes pay a high proportion of their income in taxes and take very little from the system. The fact is if you collected together all the money in the country and shared it out equally, very soon some people would be wealthy and some would be broke and asking for handouts. It's all very easy to criticise those who have more than you, but ask yourself why they have more? You'll find that unless these people inherited their wealth, unlike those who think the world owes them a living, they've worked damned hard for what they have.
I agree with Hopkirk. Go for it Dave!
