The thing that was banned in Bradford wasn't a carnival it was a march which doesn't bring joy to thousands and was wanted by a minority of people who wanted purely to stir up trouble.
For those people who like to enjoy life they do still have fun and festivities in Bradford.

Are you talking about this:

If so, the police were concerned about clashes between the EDL and UAF.
Are you saying that the Notting Hill Carnival and a protest march are the same thing, or are you referring to this parade:

All over the country on every single Saturday and Sunday during the summer months there are festivals all over the country. There are summer fairs, WI fairs, processions and fun days.
Why do you think THEY'RE all given licence to go ahead, but the EDL one was banned?
Can you think of any reason?

In my particular town, we once had a Carnival, started around the 30s it was called the Hospital Day Carnival, and money was collected for the hospitals.
At the birth of the NHS it became a standard Carnival, with decorated floats, Fancy Dress, and Marching Bands, cubs, scouts, guides, brownies etc .
This parade wound it's way through the town and halted on the city park, where a days entertainment took place, sports, dog shows, marching band competition, etc, etc. This carnival was stopped a few years ago because of the cost of policing it.
When the disappointment of losing the carnival had died down, the Caribbeans of the town started one of their own, and then a little while after the Asians started an event called the Asian Games.
Both these events cost more in police resources due to the presence of drugs, knives, rival gangs etc.but are allowed to continue year by year.

Perhaps the Asian and 'black' carnivals are better attended? Perhaps it had nothing to do with the ethnicity of the revellers.
Perhaps the local police and council are, shall we say - a little 'colour blind'.
But praise should be heaped on the organisers of the two festivals - nice to see ethnic communities getting off their butts and organising fun days, rather than sitting around carping.

I'm surprised Thomas you are concerned about EDL I would have thought all your energies would be devoted to your Saint ( Oh no he's not one yet .) the Pope . Maybe you plan to have a Carnival for him in Bradford , he will get a great welcome there. The police security should only cost us a few million .
# What a great honour for Subo to sing in front of the pope. Now's the time to put all those stupid child abuse allegations behind him and enjoy his visit to the UK....#

The EDL had planned to have morris dancers, jesters, knights and crusaders..
I thought they would've made an excuse to dress as ghosts and wear these instead.
