After Delhi officials said that the press coverage was exaggerated about the poor construction and that the buildings were not as dilapidated as reports were saying it would seem that Aussie and English swimmers are all falling ill!

no surprise there then...

Thats an incentive to stay in front !!
That's why we're getting medals, our lot can't wait to get out the water.
How come it only affects English and Australian swimmers?
Delhi belly flop..!
I feel sorry for everyone there. The running track looks dirty and I had wondered if the water for the pool was safe. I don't know what the Indian equivalent of manyana is but they have it in spades there. I watched three women squatting down and mopping up the track the other day, at the rate they were going it would have taken a week to do it all.
Makes one wonder how they managed to get such a wonderful opening ceremony up and running.
Did you see all the moths and flies around the running track last night. Ergh!
just as they said the dirty hotel pictures were blown out of proportion and are down to 'westerners high standards'

I think I'd rather be accused of having Westerner High STandards than risk a bout of something nasty from their pool or hotel!

One big reason why I never want to go to India!
I was once on an Air India flight and was gobsmacked to see a woman lift her sari and have a wee in the aisle.
The flight attendant mopped it up without batting an eyelid.
Another (non Indian) passenger told me it was common practice

Mrs O.. you have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!

You cant be serious???

I have a feeling you are though!

That is just downright disgusting
Nosha, yes I am serious

I have also seen women in India squat where they were standing without a thought. On one occasion a woman did this on a railway platform.......right outside the toilets!

I am totally grossed out!!! I mean I can appreciate there are some culture differences - but even a bloody cat buries their own turds!!!!

Why dont they ever realise its just not hygenic???
This does not surprise me Nosha, the hygene standards in India are not the best. I was told not to drink the tap water when I was in Delhi (many years ago), but then they put this same tap water into the Swimming Pools. Does not make sense to me.
I Have been to Delhi twice and got Delhi Belly both times. Not a very nice experience. There was no pain involved, I just could not eat any solids for 4 days, and spent most of my time on the Loo.

I would imagine that its a great weight loss programme though!
one of the best lines i have heard on TV was from the comedy on ITV 'mumbai calling'.

A local indian taxi picked a british guy from the airport,on the journey the englishman remarked 'what on earth is that smell ?'
the reply from the indian was ' that is India sir'
mrs_overall - I still cant believe ANYONE would do that - Im not calling you a liar :)
Im very aware of cultural differences, but surely thats nothing to do with hygiene and simple potty training !!! Gezzzz my hubby doesnt even fart infront of me ! haha
I worked once with an Indian Lady, she was a lovely person but she too had this habit of peeing where she was. They don't have a prob because they never wear knickers.

M&S wouldn't survive out there.

The UN estimates that 600 million people or 55 percent of Indians still defecate outside, more than 60 years after the scrupulously clean independence leader Mahatma Gandhi first talked of the responsible disposal of human waste.
