Alright reading between the lines.
The Tories want to move pensions and benefits from linked to the retail price index to the consumer price index reducing them.

There are also constant calls that people should go out and get jobs and not be welfare scroungers etc - we hear that repeated a lot on here by their supporters.
At the same time their cuts are set to reduce the number of jobs by nearly a million
(500,000 in the private sector)

How does that work exactly then?

// There seems to be a million and a half jobs in this country which Eastern Europeans are doing...why are,nt our own indigenous unemployed doing these jobs? //
Because those jobs tend to be minimum wage and often temporary - e.g seasonal veg picking, and it doesn't make financial sense for an indigenous unemployed person to remove themselves from the welfare system to go and do them.

A lot of the Eastern Europeans who worked here in the building trades have gone back home now that the work had finished. Locals who are unemployed wouldn't have been qualified for those jobs.
And it's a bit rich to ask someone to uproot themselves from their home and family to go and labour for the minimum wage picking vegetables.

// Sorry to ask this,Ludwig...but can they not be ar5ed getting out of their beds ...or what? //
Well, sort of. It's complicated. If it made financial sense they would be ar5ed, but it doesn't, so they can't. Imagine if your boss said 'times are hard - we're got to cut your salary by 50%' you probably wouldn't be ar5ed getting up tomorrow either.
