Are they wrong to deprive this couple of fostering?

Should this couple be denied the right to foster, just because of their Christian belief that homosexuality is unacceptable?
If they are wrong in their belief, does that mean that Muslim's could never foster, strictly because of Islam's hatred of homosexuals?

1) If they fit To foster then their personal views on anything from homosexuality to global warming should not matter a jot as long as the child goes to a good home.
2) Children should not be fostered to overtly religious people, be they christian or muslim. Both will indoctrinate the child which is wrong.

Yes, a Moslem couple who had the belief and attitude of this couple would be refused.
Why do you ask, AOG ?
Not every Christian is quite so intolerant. The Church of England has to face the fact that many of its clergy are homosexual and tolerate that. I do wonder what its answer is. Surely its ' Christian belief' must be against tolerating homosexuals in its ranks ?

You have a very good point there.

'Force' and 'indoctrinate' are rather strong words, do you think that parents on the whole, try to indoctrinate, force or even mould their children into stereotypes of themselves?
I think you forget that children have a mind of their own, are either of you stereotypes of your parents?

AOG,
I did not mention force, I said the RELIGIONS will indoctrinate the child. Parental and cultural pressure plays a part in the upbringing of children. If Mr Mohamed, a nice man really but indoctrinated himself at at early age, sends his child or foster child to the mosque every week, then there is an expectation that the child will grow up to be of that faith and take on that religions values towards women, homosexuals etc.
It is true that children do not become clones of their parents, but if they are parenting right, they should take some of their parents values, and in an ideal world, we would like foster parents to have nice values not bigoted ones. But it is not an ideal world.

I think we should remember that foster children are often very vulnerable, and when choosing likely foster parents, agencies need to take into account not the needs of the candidates, but the needs of the children involved.
Could a BNP supporter be a suitable foster parent to a Muslim child?
What would happen if the couple in the story were faced with a gay teenager - would they try to 'turn him back to the ways of the Lord', or would they keep schtum?
I think it would be difficult for someone with deeply held beliefs to do this.

"Should atheists be allowed to foster children with a previous christian upbringing....they're hardly likely to take them to church."
Not sure I'd agree with you there...I know plenty of athiests who go to church for Christenings, weddings, funerals etc. The thing about Athiests is that don't try to indoctrinate you into their non-beliefs.

But being anti-gay could seriously damage a gay child in their care. You only have to look at the recent spate of gay suicides in the US to see how potent anti-gay sentiment can be:
