The Police marksman who shot and killed banker Mark Sauders apparently inserted Duran Duran and Barbara Streisand song title into his testimony at at hearing into the banker's death.

That's just blatant contempt and insensitivity.

How does someone so daft get to carry a gun?

Gosh, the utterly horrendous acts perpetrated by this Police Officer:

"Throw him to the wolves!!!" "Chuck him into the stocks!!!" "Shoot him at dawn!!!"

Honestly, talk about stiff upper lip??? Worse things happen in life. If this is the most heinous thing which befalls any of us, we'd be extremely lucky. Some of you lot will be having this guy incarcerated in the Tower if you had your way. Saddos. It's not that when he's putting his life on the line to protect Joe Public, is it? That's simply taken for granted, but woe betide him if he dares show a modicum of so called disrespect to "the system".

Get a life! It's far too short to waste on fretting about total trivialities.
it's okay to show disrespect for the system? He works for the system. Try showing disprespect to your boss and see where it gets you.
Many people speak in cliches; these ones just happen to also be song titles. So what does that prove?
I quote 'such phrases must have stood out a mile, well done to whoever spotted those obscure phrases'; either they 'stood out a mile' or they are 'obscure', which is it?
Until he's 'convicted' of crow-barring;
"Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey",
"A - you're adorable, B - you're so beautiful......"
or
"John Wayne is big-leggy"

into his statement, I shall be reserving judgement.
<<"Throw him to the wolves!!!" "Chuck him into the stocks!!!" "Shoot him at dawn!!!>>

I think that's going too far.

Eyethankyew - cut the copper a bit of slack- You are getting too upset now and he doesn't deserve any of the punishments you are suggesting.

I'd put him before the Juke Box Jury and let them decide.
.
I would've had alot more respect for him if he'd managed to work in 'last night a DJ saved my life' without raising an eyebrow.
I have read nothing about this story, but in my experience a quick sharp word from the judge or coroner, if he thought the witness was in danger of being in contempt, would soon have dragged him back into line.
Mike

Is that an example of I fought the law but the law won?

Sorry. As I have said, I don't know any details. I thought that this thread was primarily about contempt of court and decorum.
I hope this isn't the case, but there is a game some people play where they see how many song titles or certain phrases they can insert into a work presentation or similar, to see how many people notice - you score according to how many you get away with. I can't imagine that this applied here?
Wouldn't surprise me if it did!

I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly the "game" he was playing.

It also wouldn't surprise me if a few of his mates are now bricking themselves in case any of their recent testimonies are reviewed.
Box

we used to play that game 20 years ago but they were random words we would select before the client arrived not song titles and they were just client status meetings at an Ad Agency not an inquest into someone's death!
.
Speaking from personal experience, most Police Officers encounter violent situations an unspecified amount of time in a career, which could amount to 30 years.

The mental and stress related scars cannot be physically seen of course, and in order to deal with the aftermath of situations which have been life threatening, it is very common for Officers to deal with them by using levity which others may perceive as disrespect.

To simply decry and condemn an Officer for such behaviour, hence, is to display vast ignorance of the very reality of situations caused by other human beings which are required to be dealt with by other humans, albeit in uniforms. What must never be forgotten, though, is the fact that no amount of training can adequately equip a Police Officer to be "different" to Joe Public - all of us are mere humans, nothing more, nothing less.

Remember that before making ridiculous and ill informed comment.
Indeed, we all are 'mere humans'. But how many of us would try to turn an inquest into some sort of game?
