Car Park Charges !!

Hi All
I know that we ( or at least I do !!) moan about the cost of parking at Hospitals, but I think I have witnessed the dearest car park charges today - WESTFIELD Shopping Centre at White City - £2.50 per hour or part thereof. Unfortunately the missus and I went into the 3rd hour today by 20 minutes and it cost us £7.50. I know they have to pay for the place but this is extortion. Any comments - for or against !

I always think that the shops who want your custom should stump up to subsidise parking but realise it ain't going to happen so I reckon it's a case of pay up or shut up - (and I don't mean to be rude there fbg40 - agree it's a lot for 3 hours)

what is that shopping centre like out of interest please? i'd like to go but perhaps not 6 weeks b4 christmas!

Like the Millennium Dome (now the O2), the Westfield shopping centre was granted planning permission on the basis that the majority of users would use public transport, and that travelling by car would be discouraged.

Surely at that rate it defeats the object of shopping there. What bargains you'd have to find to justify that sort of expense. Might just as well go to the corner shop.

so the prices are high in order to discourage car use, 7.20 is a lot of money for a couple of hours parking. Im guessing they want you to be so outraged you will go by bus next time ;)

As I stated, Mrs S, the object is to deter people from driving to the centre. Lakeside has 13,000 car parking spaces but you'll find it hard to get one as Christmas approaches. (Additionally, even though Lakeside is well-served by the M25 motorway and major A-roads, major traffic congestion often occurs at peak times0. Similarly, Bluewater also has 13,000 parking spaces (and good access). Westfield only has 4,500 parking spaces and is situated in an area of London which was struggling with insufficient road capacity even before the centre was built. The planning authorities insisted that visiting the Centre by car was to be actively discouraged.

Anyway, that parking could be regarded as quite cheap! If you fancy shopping around Knightsbridge (Harrod's, perhaps?) you could always park on NCP's Pavilion Road car park ;-)
2 hours : £18.50
2 to 3 hours : £28.00
3 to 4 hours : £36.00
4 to 5 hours : £45.00
5 to 24 hours : £54.00

Back in the summer I worked on a job in Brompton Gardens in Knightsbridge for a couple of weeks.
Every day we parked on double yellow lines .... it was far cheaper to pay the fine (£60)
than park in the local car park.
