I would be willing to bet that if the question was prefaced with the amount the BBC spends per day (more than £10 million/day), a lot fewer people would think it good value.
P.S. My mum thinks it is excellent value – being over 75 the licence is free to her.
Why is a manufacturer of stairlifts interested in what folk think about the licence fee and what's on TV? How many folk took part in the survey by the way?
// The survey shows that 42 per cent of that age group believe that television was better 10 years ago than it is today, with 15 per cent of them saying that they have considered cancelling their TV licences due to a lack of decent programmes. //
So 58% of a notoriously grumbly age group are saying that TV is better than it was 10 years ago, and 85% of them were happy to continue paying the licence fee. Well done the BBC! - sounds like an excellent result.
1 If we were given a choice, I wonder how many people would pay up?
2 Why should the TV licence pay for radio?
3 The BBC world service looks like a Government mouthpiece - why else would the BBC supply a service to people abroad who don't pay for it? Why should the good old licence fee pay for this?
Actually given the common " 'twas better in my day" attitude you hear from older people isn't it rather remarkable that from RS's one link only 42% of them think it was better 10 years ago.
That must have really disappointed the Survey team
Wonder who comissioned it - the Torygraph seems strangely silent on that
