I had noticed the avatar and wondered which approach Geezer would take to people who deface statues: the EU approach or the CCCP approach? Be interesting to see if he's taking a lead from Moscow on this occasion.

I can understand the students protesting but I cannot for the life of me understand why they think defacing statues of any kind is going to get them anywhere except the general contempt of the public, instead of the support they should be aiming at. Violence is going to get them nowhere.

No Churchill would not change his mind, he would understand that by delivering freedom from Tyranny innevitably you give it to those who don't deserve it, I believe he would accept that.

For all those that have been arrested I hope that the media follow up their individual cases, and report (if found guilty) of the punishment (if any) metered out to them.

For extreme crimes I would like to see them jailed and expelled from their universality

For the lesser crimes of vandalism, I would like to see them marched down Whitehall dressed in orange boiler-suits, on their way to remove all the graffiti from the statues and buildings..

I totally agree, but who are these other factions? Yes these are the 'Nasty Left,' these are the same evil mobs who infiltrate the so called 'Unite Against Fascism' and the 'Anti Nazi League' organisations.

This country has much more to fear from the 'Far Left' than it has ever to fear from the 'Far Right'.

I have sympathy for the genuine students who went along to demonstrate peacefully against something they believe to be unfair. They feel let down by their government, and they were let down by a minority group of dedicated, violent troublemakers who would not be able to gain admission to higher education even if they wanted to and probably donot have the slightest idea who Churchill actually was.

War is a dirty business and between 1939-1945 rotten decisions had to be made. If you are a winner, there will be a statue made of you, if you are a loser, all the statues will be destroyed.
