Well it seems so if this report is anything to go by.
/// It is illegal for prison officers to strike but Colin Moses, the chairman of the POA, said: "Under health and safety laws, workers have the right to withdraw to a place of safety if they are at risk. ///
What next, the police refusing to attend a violent protest?
Firemen refusing to go near a blazing building?
The armed forces refusing to carry out orders, if their lives are deemed at risk?
Where will it all end in the name of "Elf & Safety"?

Presumably before Health and Safety (note spelling), they were left to be smashed to a pulp by grumpy lifers.

/// firemen and policemen are in risky occupations; prison officers aren't supposed to be. ///
"Logic" according to jno??????????
Firemen may go for weeks or months before attending a fire.
Policemen may also go through all their service years without being put in a dangerous situation.
Whereas Prison Offices are surrounded by all types of dangerous criminals 24/7.

The fire brigade will already not go near certain blazing buildings if it puts their lives at risk.
The police and other emergency services will not, for example, jump in a frozen lake or river to rescue someone if it puts their lives at risk.
So I can fully understand prison officers retiring to a place of safety if you have some lunatics running riot and setting buildings on fire.
Only the other day this woman died when the firemen would not go into the house as it was dangerous, even though they knew the woman was in there.

Do you expect these people to put their lives at risk in very dangerous situations?
It is already dangerous enough being a fireman or polceman without people like you suggesting they are some sort of cowards.

I take great offence on your supposition that I in any way suggested that policemen and firemen are some sort of cowards.
It is a pity that you cannot enter into discussion without the need to make untrue accusations against me, and I would be obliged if you will now publicly apologise and withdraw your accusation.
