The 'Special Relationship' is something the British treasure but the Americans hardly think about.
We're Europeans. We should look to our natural allies in Europe to help cement our place in the world.
The American special relationship is with Israel. (There's perhaps still a small one with Taiwan.) The rest are meaningless, despite Blair's brown-nosing of Bush.
The special relationship in my opinion goes way back to the second world war when we had to borrow millions from the usa .
Otherwise we would have been over run by the germans.
It took until a year or two ago to repay this massive debt.
So yes we were until recently , greatly endebted to the usa for the continuation of our way of life.We cant however blame the usa for the shambles we have made of the country since. Thats entirely our own doing by trying to live in an imperial past thats long gone now.
