The Tory peer Lord Taylor, it has just been announced, has been found guilty of false accounting, i.e. "fiddling expenses".

As one of the very few black peers, what kind of message does this send out to the black community who, we are often told, need positive role models?

politicians... they're all the same!
It tells us that Tories, no matter the colour of their skin, are all thieves to one degree or another.
What a ludicrous assertion sandyroe - and I suppose that the labour MP who has just been sent down for 18 months for fiddling was wrongfully convicted was he - its life - some people are just dishonest and some are not = nothing to do with political views
Gladeian, I don't recall that the case of the Labour MP prompted any threads asking "Was he a poor role model for white folk?"

I wonder why not.
Sandyroe, slight bias there I suspect!!
A poor role model..............full stop.
I get fed up with this constant separation based on skin colour. It does nothing to aid social cohesion. When are people going to grow up? A better question would have been 'politician found guilty of false accounting - is he a poor role model?' - and the answer would have been yes.

Sandy, that is not only unjust - it's highly insulting and probably libellous.
jno, I wonder why not too. Odd that.

jack,

I disagree with your "full stop", simply because it is a fact that, rightly or wrongly, we are bombarded in the media about how "ethnic minorities" often struggle for so called positive "role models". This example does that struggle no good at all.

Don't shoot the messenger.
I'm not.
I'm aiming for the message.............
Wow how do you do it eyethanyew daring to post a question criticising a person who is not white?

There is time yet though before they start rolling in with statements such as, "what has the colour of his skin got to do with it"?

"What is the percentage of bent black peers to bent white peers"?

Etc, Etc, Etc,

Wait a mo though, I haven't mentioned the risk at you also being called a racist.
On reflection, 'thieves' is a bit strong. They all have their eye to the main chance.
What has the colour of his skin got to do with it?
Question Author
naomi,

Yes, don't we all get fed up with it, but like it or lump it, it is a fact of life in Britain which does not get solved by ignoring it or sweeping it under the carpet to pretend it doesn't exist.

We live in a very far from perfect society in many ways, and skin colour, sadly, comes into that category where some people are concerned.
Oh dear! Didn't see AOG's post before posting.
I wonder who amongst us lets skin colour influence the content of their posts on AB?
AOG, well what has the colour of his skin got to do with it - or his politics for that matter? He's a crook - full stop.

Sandy, like no one else has?
Question Author
aog,

At the risk of being labelled "racist", I believe in calling a spade a spade (NO innuendo intended).
Sandyroe there isnt a politician in parliament who didnt go in for it to see what he/she could get out of it. Long gone are the days of serving the people.
I wouldn't trust the LIB Dems, either.
