Manchester council is cutting front line necessary services rather than the back room bowlox jobs. Obviously a cynical ploy to attack the governement. Why are people so brainwashed that they still support these red hipocrites? If the people had any sense Labour would be out in places like Manchester and Liverpool next chance, some hope!

I think you'll find that both Labour and Tory controlled councils are doing much the same as each other.
If the Tories ran Liverpool and Manchester would these cuts not have happened?
Frontline the new trendy soundbite

If the job isnt needed then get rid of it whatever line it is, Labour and the PC brigade have created tensupon tens of thousands of useless PC jobs in all areas
"Breast Feeding Co-ordinator" What The Funicular is that all about.

Just look at the commooonity" jobs section in the Grauniad each week, laughable if it wasnt so true
Somebody will be co-ordinating when there's nowt left to co-ordinate. Our council is spending
£800,000 to a consultancy firm to save £ 1.3 million by getting rid of jobs (local newspaper)

yes baz if only they'd target the non jobs eh?
Who decides if a job is a non-job though?

Are we going to base the decision on whether the job title is clear cut or not. Or will we just cut the jobs that don't serve any benefit to ourselves because we consider them a non job.

well lets start with the bleeding obvious non jobs and unnecessary empires of admin.
And the bleeding obvious ones would be?

OK Baz - Geezer

Here's the Guardian jobs

http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/jobs/government/

Show us the "bowlox" jobs then
A non job is a job that isn't needed or understood by the recipient.

i.e I am employed so why is there a need to employ people in Social security offices.
I am not a woman or a mother so I have no idea what a "Breast Feeding Co-ordinator"
so that is obviously a ridiculous job.

Yet another ill thought out attack on something that some people don't understand.

All parties are cutting and will continue to I am quite sure that any cuts will be where they have to be.
R1, has it occurred to you that the reason the 'non-jobs' aren't being cut may be that it's because they're something of a myth? Or an exaggeration? If it was as you're describing, then you'd think such positions would easily be the first to go - but maybe they're not because there actually aren't that many?

well the first one is a classic jake, "program manager new ways of working" - genius - £53K to not do any actual work at all but to be a pain in the proverbial to those on half as much that do an actual function.

They need to get the heads out of their ar5se and realise that they are their as public servants to get on with what we need
What is a "program manager new ways of working" I take it you know as you have stated that they don't do any work.
The job description is here:

".....authoroisation by cabinet" yep you guessed it local authorities have Cabinets now! more snout in the trough antics. They get wages too. No wonder they are squirming when asked to save money! Listen I know several councillors and they are a particular mind set that think it's their right to milk the public purse. personally I'd get shot of local authorities altogether, you don't need 60 councillers to run a town! a dozen half decent managers could do it. councillor run jack any way!
Apparently the children’s services directorate will see the biggest reduction in posts, losing 42 per cent of its staff, or 926 people.

If what they say is true and they are only trimming certain services down to make them more efficient, cutting this important directorate by almost half must mean that it was vastly over staffed in the first place.
