Boy George ????????Osbourne '''said on TV that the forthcoming increase in duty on petrol ,, has been passed on by the previous Labour government?? Have i missed something?? I thought the CONS were in power at the moment....

Yes, but the plans for petrol increases etc started before they came into power as I understand it.
Fuel duty was frozen in 2010 (an election year coincidentally) for one year only.

When a new Government is formed you expect it to think for itself. Past increases can fairly be blamed on the previous administration, but it is highly unusual to blame future increases on them.
believe there is automatic clause for the increase that needs to be repealed in the House.......and hence the budget will be used for moving that as part of the overall acceptance of it when it goes to House endorsement. The question would have been if there hadnt been the pressure on prices would the Coalition still gone for the rise - Libs wanting green action for example......
I believe it's to pay for all the question marks?????????????????
Petrol has been rising above inflation since the sixties. Its the exchequers 5th highest tax category and without it income tax would have to rise by 15%.
