Here we go again getting involved in Muslim wars. Cameron is the main proposer for a no-fly zone in Libya when the rest of the world says hold your horses.

What are the likely motives for Cameron wanting to take the lead?

Drive up oil prices = nice little earner.
The Frogs and the Lebenon are also backing this so no need to get into one of your standard an anti British tizzies eh. Stick to science eh? oh hang on! Chatterbank??

It is all about oil, if there was no oil he wouldn't care a jot.
I guess he doen't want to spend the rest of his life wringing his hands out of remorse for not doing anything.
Why do our leaders (Blair, Brown, Cameron etc) seem to spend more time worrying about other countries and less about our own.

We have huge propblems in this country, including crime, unemployment, immigration, a recession, people being laid off, cuts in goverment and council funding, a crumbling infrastructure, lack of new industry and investment etc.

You would think that was enough to keep any PM busy.

Maybe we need a "home" PM and an "away" PM.

The away PM can spend their time swannng round the world sorting out other peoples problems, and a home PM can stay here and sort out OUR problems.
Steve5, they do it so the likes of you are freee to write that trash with no recrimination.

If you ask me Cameron is showing his lefty side and caring for the people.. It has sod all to do with oil, Libia produces 5% and the Saudi's can easily turn the tap up a bit. Added to that oil has crashed as it is expected Japan will need less.

VHG, I agree with your sentiments - to a degree. World affairs thes days do have an affect on any other country. Add to this Gadaffi has threatened to talked os Bin Laden & Co, well maybe you might see why he takes this action?

///Maybe we need a "home" PM and an "away" PM///.

You have got a point there VHG

I thought we were supposed to have a Foreign Secretary but Haigh is being treated as non entity. Either the PM has nothing to do all day or is trying to promote himself on the world stage. Blair achieved it remarkably and in the end completely abandoned the Foreign Office because they did not agree with his views. History books will show his legacy badly and if Cameron pursues this line the same will happen to him.

VHG - "Why do our leaders (Blair, Brown, Cameron etc) seem to spend more time worrying about other countries and less about our own. " Couldn't have put it better myself.
Perhaps the wives and partners encourage such behaviour to reap the benefits of testosterone and tumescence.
Oh, and don't forget, we're all in this together. Posh Dave and wee Willie Haig are reportedly being measured for uniforms as I type.
FAT CHANCE!
R1 - maybe we should intervene against China which oppresses millions of its citizens on a daily basis?
He and his useless cabinet do not understand home or world politics. As GW Bush and Blair thought that Iraq was an easy way to wreak revenge after Twin Towers, Cameron thinks Gadaffi is an easy knock-over. But however what happens if Gadaffi regains power and returns Libya to stability? Thanks to the UK,US hostlity now, will we all not pay a hard price? Remember both GW Bush and Tony Blair had got Gadaffi "on-side" with peace-agreements. Maybe Gadaffi is right in saying revolutions in N. Africa are caused by Al Khalida - dunno how to spell latter. We can use that to argue for illegal behaviour but "bad" people cannot.
