Just do your home work first and check places like gumtree and local classified ads to ensure you are not paying over the odds.
As others have mentioned steer clear of designer labels and top end electricals that seem too good to be true.
Majority of people use it as a warm car boot sale, so there is a lot of junk as well.

I had a 100% good feedback until I sold a football rattle. (for 99p). The buyer gave me a negative and said when they used it, it broke. I appealed to ebay about the negative but they said it was with the rules and all I could do is make a comment - which I did. So unfair I feel. I would have given the money back even though it was good when I posted it. On the whole ebay is good for buyers, but can be a bit hard at times for the seller.
ive never had any problems..ive never sold anything..just bought books,x box games etc etc..the most expensive thing i bought was a ride on car for my nephew it was £250.00 i was a bit nervous about buying it to be honest but it arrived from the shop within the specified delivery period and was exactly as it was advertised..so i cant complain about e-bay at all...

I have bought loads of stuff, all prices, used from private sellers who just sell their unwanted goods, and brand new from business sellers who recognise eBay as having a huge market.
I had one problem only which was resolved relatively quickly with PayPal refunding my money in full.
I have sold a car for £4000 and that went very well.
If you go to a market, car boot or buy from classifieds you have absolutely no comeback if things go wrong. Ebay is safer, in my opinion.
Check the prices first - dvds, cds etc are often cheaper from Play.com, Sendit or the online supermarkets.
Check the cost of postage too.
Don't forget that even established High Street stores have their share of dissatisfied customers - and fraudulent customers, too. People are very very quick to complain and very slow to compliment.
Bear in mind you will not buying from eBay. eBay does not sell anything except advertising space for sellers. So don't let one bad experience with one bad seller put you off. There are millions of sellers and even Argos, Littlewoods and other big shops sell via eBay. Like this
