Don`t know if its true but apparently this was a exchange on a quiz when Chris Tarrant was on a london radio show..
The question to a female contestant was name this well known sports commentator (the answer was Murray Walker)
Time was going on and the poor girl was struggling and saying oh come chris please give me a clue please please..
Well shouldnt really but o.k.... its something you could suck....
Oh I know she said its Dickie Davies!!!!
The story goes that all over london car drivers were laughing so much there was bedlam.. and chris gave her the prize..

I don't want to show my age, but yes this was true. I remember so clearly that I still bring it up now and then as a joke. But you have to know Murray Walker (good looker of the day) and Murrymints. These sweets are still around.

By the way, I just read your post and it was not Chris Tarrant, but it was on the Billy Butler show Radio Merseyside. The lady was asking him for a clue as he had just given the lady before a clue about John Wayne, to which he replied ' like the hell I will ' with a John Wayne accent. She won the prize anyway.
