In the 50s Winstone Churchill was in the 'House of Lords' making a speech when Bessie Braddock stood up in anger and said those famous words & he uttered that same reply.

Therefore its a true story...

Sorry Jemisa, Bessie Braddock was never in the House of Lords. You can find suggestions that he said this to Lady Astor and Emmanuel Shinwell as well as La Braddock et al.

My point was that I believed you were presenting a quote said to be from Churchill or WC Fields without attribution. That's why I included the link to the discussion.

Lady Astor was supposed to have said to Churchill ' If you were my husband i would poison you' and his supposed reply ' if you were my wife i would drink it'
