The ''timmer''rodgers Story.
This is a true story that took place on a street of terraced houses in a small town in the north of Scotland where everyone knew everybody else usually by a ''nick''name relating to their occupation. ''Timmer'' is a dialect derivation of timber.
Timmer Rodgers carried on a business of selling firewood, mainly bundles of ''kindling''at a time when everyone had coal fires, from a four wheeled dray cart pulled by his faithful emaciated old horse Rosinante.
On this day,in the afternoon, the householders were alarmed by the sound of the clatter of iron shod hooves, wooden shafts, and brass festooned harness and on rushing outdoors to see the cause they were confronted with the pathetic scene of old ''Timmer'' standing cap in hand, with a tear in his eye sobbing. As he leant over the body of his old servant he said to a bystander the words that made him immortal in the town ''I've niver seen him deein that afore''
