Not sure how this works but it does. Try this maths puzzle to predict your favourite film, mine was Star Wars.
Pick a number between 1-9
Multiply by 3
Add 3 to that number
Multiply by 3 again
Add the two digits together
3. Alien
4. Star wars
5. Blade Runner
6. Saving Private Ryan
7. Jaws
8. Grease
9. The joy of sex with mountain goats
10. Mary Poppins
To be boring:
For any integer n, (3n+3) x 3= 9n+9 = 9(n+1)
This is always a multiple of 9. For any integer up to 10 the sum of the digits of any multiple of 9 (9, 18, 27, 36, ...81, 90, 99) will always be 9
I agree, cupid. In an attempt to redeem myself I've posted my first ever thread in Jokes.
If anyone likes these maths puzzles and wants to try one on their school age children in the holidays, here is a good one on a similar theme (but avoiding goat references) :
Another one, the algebraic proof is good for year 11s
Select a 3 digit number, eg 348, the units and hundreds must differ, ie not 838 etc.
Reverse your number, 843 and subtract them, 843 - 348 =495 in this eg.
reverse that answer and add, 495 + 594 = 1089.
