So far as I am concerned the "rusty hacksaw" did not touch flesh but cut through metal only and was well sterilised beforehand. Have read the whole story on the STV website and am at a loss to see what else the surgeon could have done under the circumstances.
I agree with maggiebee.....no big deal and happens not infrequently.
I remember a surgeon trying to remove a pin and plate at our hospital, just could n't get a strong enough screwdriver to make any impression. hes sent out a message to the gardener who produced a "solid" screwdriver which was sterilised and off he went.
