The New Mirror
Old Seamus and his wife lived in a cottage in a remote part of Ireland, with no mod cons, no electricity, phones or mains water.
One day the postman called and left a parcel for the couple. Seamus carried into the kitchen and began to tear it open.
Inside was a plain glass mirror. Neither of the couple had ever seen one before.
"What is it Seamus?" his wife called.
"It's from our son Patrick in London. He's sent us a picture of himself."
"That's lovely!" he replied.
"Ah dear me," said the man, "The life in London is telling on him. He looks so old and worn out!"
His wife peered over his shoulder. "No wonder!", she said, "Look at the old hag he's taken up with!"
