Years ago I think I read somewhere that chess sets were made by prisoners in Soviet gulags.  

Wooden clothes pegs made in China are probably better for the environment than plastic ones, but what conditions do the people who make them endure?

Well, you'll have to live with it, and your conscience.

Those who say they  won't buy anything produced cheaply abroad for moral reasons aren't doing the people working there any favours.  Producing those products is their livelihood - without which they may well starve.  It's virtue signalling of the very worst kind because it really can have a devastatingly negative effect.  

If I'm honest I don't really care.
