Dont let the facts and practibilities get in the way of a good sound bite.

They don't teach "home economics" round the back of the bike sheds at Rayners Lane Comprehensive.

Give the woman a chance, she only just picked up her new trowel at Screwfix this morning.

Building 370,000 homes a year is pretty unachievable; the amount of red-tape involved in making a Planning Application is ridiculous....thank goodness previous governments simplified everything.🙄

"the amount of red-tape involved in making a Planning Application is ridiculous"

Unless they want to build them near you; then you might thank god that they are thinking hard beore giving planning permission.

They do precious little thinking.

The hoops are endless, and costly; not so much for the 'big' developers, obviously, but the smaller developers, especially those creating new homes from old.

There could be so much more done but there are no real incentives for anyone to try at the small-developer end of the market.

Meanwhile twerking class foghorn has been busy in Italy and Spain telling them how to do it(Rome was built in a day according to her then). Shaming us all with her common as muck demeanor no doubt.

jack... What are new homes from old?

Redeveloping existing properties to create homes.

If they are proposing new dwellings on a site containing old dwellings, then there wouldn't be an issue about land use per se. If the proposal is for extra units, or significantly larger buildings, then they would have to consider neighbouring amenity, parking issues, neighbourhood character and so on....

Really? Whodathunkit.....!?!

There are rather more things than that to be taken into consideration before submitting a Planning Application.

I am now spending a greater proportion of my time on admin rather than design

You and the planning authority are on different sides. You want to get permission for your clients, and the LPA wants to protect the public. It's up to central govt to set the rules. It can be frustrating for both sides.

....which is what I said up there^....

jack... You said that previous govts simplified everything. Has the Lab govt reversed that position?

The🙄is supposed to indicate the irony of my sentence....

Sorry, jack... I'm not au fait with those funny faces.

Oh well, all the best.

Where are they going to get all the tradesmen to build these homes? All youngsters these days are pushed into going to university to do a pointless degree. They are never advised by their school that actually they can a earn a good living by not going to university and learning a worthwhile trade.

I suppose some of the rubber boaters might have building skills - if they aren't too busy doing brain surgery.🤣

What a cynic you are, davebro. Do you expect Architects to swap their pencils for shovels?
