The black box
A young couple got married and on their wedding night the bride produced a black box and showed it to her husband. "Now this is mine" she said, "and in it are things personal to me. You must never open this box, nor ask me about its contents. Will you do that?" "Of course," said her husband. "I will always respect your privacy". Sixty years later they were celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary. "One thing, my love" he said. "After all these years, do you think you could tell me what is in your black box?" She thought for a moment, and then said yes why not? So she opened the box and showed her husband the contents: two eggs and a roll of banknotes totalling 1000. He looked at them blankly. She explained "Every time I was unfaithful to you I put an egg in the box". At first he was shocked, and then he thought well, only twice in sixty years - I can forgive her that. "But what about the 1000?" "Well" she said, "Whenever there were a dozen eggs, I sold them and put the money in the box".
