Unwelcome visitor

A man sitting in his house hears a knock at the door, he opens the door and see's nobody. Then he hears a voice and looks down, "Hello there, is there any chance of a little piece of lettuce or some cabbage leaves please?" Says a snail sitting on the step. "You can get stuffed mate" says the man, he picks up the snail and drop kicks it into the next garden.
Three years later, another knock at the door. The man answers the door, looks down to see the snail who says...
"Was there any need for that?"
