Because people were talking to her?
-- answer removed --
because she had ears.
An old flame was whispering in her ear.
The one's in her head ? Some kind of menntal problem I'd guess.
who said that? pardon?
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.
psychosis? x
She claimed that the voices were those of St. Michael and St. Catherine. The Inquisition were not entirely convinced. Unfortunately mental health awareness was very much in its infancy in those days, so whilst today she would have been referred to a psychiatric specialist, at the time the only cure was pyrotherapy.
She had a brain tumour ( Tuberculoma at a a guess) which as it grew produced auditory hallucinations.
She was French. They hear but never listen.
schizophrenia ?
At best it was the product of an empty stomach on an empty head, at worst it could well have been hallicinations produced by a mental illness - of course we will never know.
She was nuts.
she did quite well for someone who was nuts/schizophrenic/braintumerous. Imagine what a thrashing the English would have got if she'd been healthy.
Were she healthy she'd have had the sense not to risk her life on risky military campaigns and stuff.
Just a minute while I ask my little voices ....
Her conscience was telling her that her stake needed to be flame-grilled.
