I'm just wondering of words that mean a series of ups and downs. For example if one was saying that recently life has been a series of ups and downs, what words could replace the term " series of ups and downs"?

rollercoaster?

I thought there would be more.
When used figuratively 'rollercoaster' does not really convey the ups and downs - it's more just a hurtling, headlong journey through some experience or other. In y our example, 'series of ups and towns' or even peaks and troughs, is the best option.

QM, I just thought there would be a good word to sum up what I was saying. Sort of like hectic.
