What is the meaning of whereby in the following sentences? does it mean "in doing so" or something else?

It was man, not God, who created the concept of 'original sin,' whereby Eve tasted of the apple and caused the downfall of the human race. Woman, once the sacred giver of life, was now the enemy."

'Whereby' just means 'by whch'. Here's an example..."A knife was the means whereby he was murdered." So, Eve's eating of the apple was the means whereby/by which man's downfall happened.
