Leading on from the previous thread what is the worst 'professional' spelling mistake you have seen? Mine was a diversion sign which said 'DIVERTED TRAFIC'
In the Main Post Office in my nearest town (sorry, City), they have all these signs hanging from the ceiling, including one which says stationary. I never know whether I should stand still underneath it! Note this is the MAIN Post Office in the City centre! (Come to think of it though, I've never seen those envelopes move............)
the funniest spelling mistake i have seen was on a website, a dyslexic person must have been doing the road signs that day because the 'STOP' sign on the road said 'SOPT' it was rarther amusing
When I used to work on the roads, I asked a white liner if he had ever painted SLOM on the road or something similar. He said the closest he had come was at the Dorchester hotel on Park Lane. They were supposed to paint CHAUFFEURS, but no one could decide how to spell it, so they ended up painting CHAF'S.
in Tesco's today, they had some wine on special offer with the following blurb: "Drink me! dry and very, very moorish". It was an Australian wine so not very Moorish, but probably quite moreish
I live in Bedford, when the painters arrived to paint the new sign for British Rail, it was spelt BRITITISH RAIL. Photo appeared on Esther Rantzen some years ago.
