Does anyone else cringe when addressed as "GUYS"?I overheard a waitress in a restaurant who addressed two elderly ladies as such, how inappropriate!Teachers in a school regularly do it too,in the English Dept!
Also being asked if I'm alright in a shop really gets my goat, the first time I panicked as I thought I must look like I was about to expire! What they mean is "Can I help you"

"first time I panicked as I thought I must look like I was about to expire"

You mean they were waiting with a whoopsie sticker to put on you and put you on the reduced shelf?
Blame the Americans and their 'culture'. The use of 'Hey' instead of 'Hi' gets me mad.
rather that than thou, thee, thy, and thine*

i would probably step up to being ever-so-slighlty-narked if " y'all " came into common english usage. that would get on me goat.

* try saying that with no top teeth
When I hear someone say "at the end of the day" it makes me want to punch something.
How are you with "OK" ?

I think that was a great bugbear of a previous generation.

I find "can I get...." in shops annoying and "How are you...I'm good" but I do understand that language and culture is constantly changing and try to get over it
I find "Too much information" very condescending.
Do we want the youth of the UK to speak like Abercrombie and fitch wearing 'liberals' with a macbook under their arm? I think not.
Do you know what I mean.
I have noticed just lately that the "in" phrase from shop assistants is "did you find everything you need today"? Grrrr
In a restaurant/cafe etc when a customer says " can I get ............", not "can I have.........". If they want to "get" , they should go to the kitchen and get "it" themselves.

My daughter signed a lease for a flat I went as her guarantor the entire time we were there the eastate agent (lady) referred to my daughter and her partner as "sweetheart" no Ms - Mr but sweetheart.

GGGRRRRRRR
My sentiments entirely moiflan - I HATE the title GUYS!! The only guy I know - is stuck up on the bonfire on 5th Nov!!
LOL horseshoes - "Did you find everything you need today" really irritates me too, in "The Works" shop this week when this was said to me I decided to hit back! I looked puzzled, asked them to repeat it, then said "Sorry, I didn't NEED anything, I only came in to get ideas for presents"
Another pet hate is newsreaders saying "At the top of the hour"
Why have all these silly Americanisms crept into our English language? I sincerely hope we won't soon have the American way of spelling our words incorrectly.
"I have noticed just lately that the "in" phrase from shop assistants is "did you find everything you need today"?"

As a shop assistant, I can categorically state that it's not our choice to say these inane sayings, as to put it bluntly, we'd rather you buy your stuff and bugger off ASAP.
HEY ED - Where's my nice Christmas Avatar gone - who's put that silly yellow "guy" its place? Please get rid and bring back my stable Nativity ...
hey, "did you find everything you need today?" makes perfect sense. Shopowners need to know if they're not stocking something people want, and since they no longer have staff standing around helping people, the only way they can find out is when you're checking out.

Best response is to give them a long list of the things you couldn't find.
"I can categorically state that it's not our choice to say these inane sayings"

i bet you do say that b00, closely followed by "good, now eff off"
jno, how far through the four candles routine do you think i could get ?
looks like Gravatar is playing up again, Ann; have your say here
