What is the meaning of "pull-no-punches" in the following sentences?

 

What started as an honest, pull-no-punches discussion left terribly hurt feelings in its wake, and the participants didn't speak to one another for many days afterward.

If a boxer pulls his punches it means he either doesn't hit his opponent, or hits him softly (he pulls his fist back as it approaches his opponent). He might do this if for any reason he didn't want to hurt his opponent. If he pulls no punches, he hits as hard as he can and shows no mercy.
