I have been told in the office several times today that Charlie is dead. I have no idea what this means and neither does my friend when I asked her. Just curious to find out if any one knows or is it some kind of joke I am not picking up on. The older co workers who told me said yu will eventually find out.

I'm guessing it was jaybones petticoat that was showing then. Ha ha ha.

It now means that an edge of white undergarments is showing.
Black petticoat showing- if they say 'It's snowing down south' it means a white one.
It used to mean your petticoat is showing. Does anyone still wear one?
Someone told me that it relates to Royalist ladies wearing their skirts in a certain way when Charles 1 was executed as a sign of mourning that wouldn't incriminate themselves as Royalists. Could be true, I suppose
It was also Fred is dead when I was at school!

On the very rare occasion that I wear a skirt or dress, if they are unlined I wear a petticoat...................

Thanks every one, I will know to check my slip in futuure. My friend had told me on the way to work this morning my slip was showing and suggeested on the way home I check the elastic as it was comeing down again. You live and learn and I had been walking about all day with my slip on show..
Always wear one if I wear a skirt....which isn't often.
Just in case you end up in a skip........?

I used to know it as 'snowing down south'. That is a Yankee expression, I think.
