Well, it could be worded better. It seems that in the wards, you will find immediate life support equipment. I suppose that must be something like a heart defibrillator. In other areas, you would find basic life equipment, which perhaps means things like oxygen tanks, bandages, and the like.

immediate life support equipment as far as I know is not a phrase I know. Do you mean - advanced life support equipment. It is a bit odd having BLS equipment off site and ALS equipment on site - but possible.

Basic life support is there for immediate use at the bedside, a bag and mask etc. Defibs etc are kept centrally (always a designated place each ward) so all ward staff have immediate access. They are very much more expensive so 1 or 2 per ward is about right.. In an ideal world each patient would have ALL lifesaving equipment by the bedside but sadly this isn't an ideal world.
