I was watching the snowboarding from the Winter Olympics this morning and, after one girl had had a fairly difficult round, one of the male commentators said something about her having "slugs in her knickers". I didn't know what he meant but it sounded in appropriate to me. I looked it up but all I could find was something not very nice in the urban dictionary.
Did anyone else hear it and does anyone know what was meant?

if you read this it sort of explains their way of speaking, and some of the commentators comments aren't much better http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/winter-olympics/10626551/Sochi-2014-Winter-Olympics-BBC-apologise-after-British-snowboarder-says-huck-it.html

have you listened to some of these snowboarders, they talk like they are from a different planet, like surfers, a whole different language.
The eco-friendly solution would be to send in a hedgehog.
It's not a phrase that I have heard before but it doesn't sound like a nice thing to say.

The most interesting bit of the Olympics so far has been the side-by-side toilets. Also interesting to know that there no gay people in Russia.
as i said a whole different ball game or board game if you like

I thought all the female snowboarders sounded very well spoken, emmie.
But I think this was a well known commentator
Mosaic - hedgehogs in one's knickers sound a tad uncomfortable. :-)
some are indeed pretty raw.
if you look at the link of snowboarding terms it's like the surfing ones, a very young persons take on language

I read yesterday that Sage Kostenburg, the slopestyle gold medallist, thinks "the Olympics are sick to have snowboard," so that's jolly good
stupid cow on bbc keeps screaming on the snowboarding commentary she's getting right on my tits
^I'm finding the excitable bbc commentator irritating
oh my...the Beeb doesn't understand "stoked" or "radness" did the sixties pass them by entirely? They will be asking what a "dude" is next.

as for the slugs in her knickers thing, I would have just though he meant she was going slowly.
I heard that comment and goggled it too. I would like an explanation of why such comments are deemed acceptable from a BBC commentater
BBC commentators seem to be a law unto themselves. Who was it said while reporting on a cricket match: 'The bowler's Holding. The batsman's Willey'?
are slugs in your knickers more outrageous than ants in your pants?
Michael Buerk watching Philippa Forrester cuddle a male astronomer for warmth during BBC1's eclipse coverage:
"They seem cold out there, they're rubbing each other and he's come in his shorts."

Ken Brown commentating on golfer Nick Faldo and his caddie Fanny Sunneson lining up shots at the Scottish Open:
"Some weeks Nick likes to use Fanny, other weeks he prefers to do it by himself."

Mike Hallett discussing missed snooker shots on Sky Sports:
"Stephen Hendry jumps on Steve Davis's misses every chance he gets."
lol. They makes Jonner's remark seem quite bland. :-)

Confirmation today in the BBC news website of some of the quotes. It says
"Other comments included: "She's got a face that could help bread rise"; "this feels like I've got slugs in my knickers"; and "riding switch [back-to-front] is like writing left-handed while wearing a chip hat and being attacked by seagulls".

I'm still not sure what the commentator meant by ""this feels like I've got slugs in my knickers"
