Random Acts Of Kindness

I took Dad (80 years old) to London today. It was a sort of trip down memory lane, as he's been unwell lately, and I thought it might cheer him up. We visited Battersea, where I grew up, and where he owned a newsagents (we lived above shop). I was taking a few photos (the shop is now a house), when a lady came out of the front door. I told her the story, and why I was photographing. I couldn't believe it when she invited us in, and showed us around the house. I could see tears in my dad's eyes, and I was filling up too. We could have been anybody. That act of kindness made his day, and certainly mine. Has anybody else witnessed such an act of kindness lately?

I was once invited in when I was waiting for my friend to pick me up after I missed my bus and it was the middle of winter. Really nice family, it was Christmas time as well.

Did your dad enjoy the pub meal, more importantly did he pay for you too? :) I read your thread this morning. I'm glad you both enjoyed it.

Excellent. It's amazing how many memories a trip down memory lane can bring back.

I had a stroke about 14 years ago and I must admit since then I've experienced lots things,nothing major but lots of the little things from young and old that mean a lot and show that there are lots of good people knocking about and not just the yobs and thugs who tend to get all the publicity.

He was born 1934 I reckon - so would have seen active service during the war and possibly Korea.

in markies today mum handed out her free tea/coffee vouchers to people waiting in the queue as they expire before we expect to go back ...made a few grumpies smile !!

I loved the story - doubly - because ....

I got bored at a conference in Brighton and took a bus out to X-ville and then walked along the beach ( not more than a mile ) to where I spent summers with a school friend.
On sale now at £750k - and was able to tell the owner exactly who had owned it fifty years ago and who had done what etc....

The owner's wife couldnt stop being loudly rude to me as she thought it was a bite on an over priced house and couldnt cope with the fact that I was just a walk-in time waster. Ho hum c'est la view

[ I suppose she cd have said : "yeah yeah oo really oo that is really interesting oo yeah oo did they oo no really yeah no yeah"
and then turned to her husband when she had closed the door and asked him who the hell was that ? ]

My sister, 94, has gone into a rehab place for respite and assessment as to her staying at home.
She lives in Newcastle while I am in Derbyshire and unable to visit being due for an operation next week.
Her old friend is being unbelievably helpful - visiting, looking after sister's house, even cancelled the papers!
Without her help, I don't know how I could cope - rather difficult by remote control!
How do you measure friendship like this?
Fortunately I am able to talk with my sister on the phone - what a blessing.

Kindle exceeding expectations - have given up on our mobile library's fortnightly (if lucky) visit.
I asked why most of the book stock seemed to be by women authors and was told that most of the readers were women!
Thank goodness I can still read.
