Where does the phrase 'Only fools and horses' originate from, is it part of a longer phrase or just made up by John Sullivan for the tv series?

But it is doubtful if there is any authenticated origin for the term; though one website says that it was invented about 100 years ago by an Australian horse racing character called Jim "The Grafter" Kingsley, also known as "The Big Walrus"!
