What does MO stand for, I hear it all the time - but noone ever says what it stands for?

Modus operandi = method of operation = how you normally do things. TV cops on both sides of the Atlantic will often "finger" a criminal if they spot his MO. ie Harold Shipman's MO was to inject patients in their own homew while alone with them.

On a somewhat related topic, I knew a geography teacher who couldn't work out where the American city of 'Ellay' (LA) was!
