Where did the saying "try walking a thousand miles in my shoes come from?" Or is it put yourself in my shoes? What was the original saying? And its origin?
It's frequently given in forms such as "Try walking a mile in another man's moccasins." That would suggest the saying came from some Native American language originally, but I am not sure whether that is the case.
I think it was from NAI and if I remember rightly I think it was used a lot around the time of the civil rights movement in America, don't think this was when it emerged though!
