Just what is a control freak? Is it someone who wants control of something but can't get it? Or is it someone who is going mad because they're a boss or something?

What about someone who has no credit cards? Has paid the mortgage off? Owns an 05 reg car but has no loans? Controls their own finances by using cash and cheques only? Is THAT a control freak? If so, then it's me!

I've always been baffled by this expression. Come on someone. Give us a clue!

Chambers Dictionary defines such a person as "someone who is extremely or obsessively reluctant to share power or responsibility with others". In other words, sombody who has to be in charge, no matter what, at all times.

Are you obsessive about financial matters rather than just organised? If so, then perhaps you are one!

Well said QM. big questions as with any other personality quirk is Does it give you a problem? Does it give those close to you a problem?

It's not just about the big things too its the little things - my ex used to complain about and get indignant about what i did with my food - such as using black pepper - or adding ketchup to chips and beans - he could understand it and got upset about it - every time! or if used another cup instead of re-using one - in my house! - that why he my ex!

my brother is the same he cannot bear that i do things my way and don't follow his constant lectures - he is very uptight and starightlaced and puts so many 'unwritten' rules on his life, he expects me to do the same, and is outraged and disgusted that i don't - this is also a form of being a control freak - just generally trying to control other people and feeling unnerved when things don't run how you'd like them.

I've got a friend who I call a control freak - always says, are we ready to leave? when she has had enough, and always wants to book things like accommodation straight away, rather than try alternatives, always decides when, where and what we do. I go along to a certain extent, but every now and then, I have to put my foot down and point out that she's being a control freak, which she of course cannot see.
