High Hat/ Four Flush

I was wondering what the origin of "High Hatting" as in ignoring someone in public.

Also , what is the origin of the insult " Four-Flusher" ( usually in a Cowboy Film ) . I'm nt sure of the rules of Poker so it must be a dodgy move like marking the cards etc.

An actual Flush in poker consists of 5 cards of the same suit. If you have 5 consecutive cards of the same suit, it's a Straight Flush, and if those 5 cards run from 10 thru Ace, it's called a Royal Flush.
A cheating Four Flusher will show his hand, with only four cards of the same suit, and the 5th card obscured in such a way that anyone taking only a quick glance will think it's a true 5-card flush. (Source: The Phrase Finder)

Just a guess, but until the 1930s, top hats were worn by people who were too grand to speak to the likes of us.

Yes, informally high-hat means, to treat in a superciliously indulgent manner: condescend, patronise, speak (or talk) down to. Characteristic of or resembling a snob: elitist, snobbish, snobby. Informal : snooty, stuck-up, uppish, uppity. "High-hat" refers to the top hat worn mostly by the rich.

In poker, a four flush is a hand with four cards of the same suit - unless the fifth card forms a pair or straight a four flush is worthless. Hence the verb to four-flush, means to bluff or deceive, and four-flusher, meaning a braggart or pretender.
