I use draw whether it's open or close. If I say, 'Draw the curtains please.' it means , according to their current position, do something different with them.

However, in my childhood, my mother would always 'draw' the curtains at night and 'pull' them in the morning.

The question is brought about by an international linguistic argument (friendly). As a child my mother came into my bedroom & drew back the curtains, I have always used it that way; "Draw them open" & "close them".
It seems opinion is divided

"Draw" means "pull". Whether opening or closing you have to pull curtains (you can't push them!)

Of course you can push curtains open. We have curtain poles and push the rings to open the curtains without touching the fabric.

Correctly you 'Draw' the curtains together to close them. You can't 'draw' something open.
