Back to the dentist this morning for an impression of my gums.

He said I could pay for the treatment in dribs and drabs or all at once.

I decided to bite the bullet(or rather gum the bullet) and get the paying over with.

Another £1100. Added to the £420 for extractions this is turning into an expensive business.

I really do wish I'd looked after me teeth

Dunno how old you are sandy (or background) but my working-class parents weren't very health conscious. When rationing ended we had free rein on sugar & sweets & tooth brushing was for high days & holidays.

I don't have dentures or implants yet but plenty of gaps & fillings.

Kids don't know if their parents don't instruct them.

PS. I first saw a dentist when I was aged about 6 for several extractions & didn't go again until I was 21.

I'm 77 now and with a similar childhood to yours.

Very different times then.

Even today there are children being admitted to hospitals for treatment of their rotten teeth.  Our parents were maybe ignorant.  Many of today's parents seem to be wilfully so.

My mother had all her teeth whipped out when she was very young, when the NHS was in it's infancy. She wasn't the only one who thought it was the best way to avoid future toothache.

I didn't have a lot of sweets but I did have lots of sugar in my tea and porridge. Had a sweet pudding every day too and cakes. Taking care of my teeth was never a priority when I was young.

nope the school GA dentai  lists ( two a day at most general hospitals  ) were unfilled and  abandoned in the late  seventies

Well would you believe it, I've been to the dentist this week, two fairly loose teeth, heading fir a plate I'm told when the back one gives way, pull the front one that's loose and fill the other gaps I've gained over the last few years.

standard cost - I pay about £1000 per crown

so a job lot  for £1500 seems like a good deal

dubbl post sozza - dont think anyone will notice tho

I've had an upper denture for over 72 years - can anyone beat that ?

This says children are being admitted to hospitals due to dental problems

https://www.dental-nursing.co.uk/news/over-100-000-child-hospital-admissions-for-rotting-teeth-since-2018-1#:~:text=The%20data%20from%2064%20Trusts,children%20over%20the%20past%20year.

I'm missing one tooth at the back top right. Other than that I have all my own teeth - not bad at 78.  Had to go private 2 years ago so it's a bit pricey these days, but worth it IMO.

Same here, Maggie. Mine was top left at the back. Luckily it's not noticeable. 😃
