My girlfriend has the same surname as Hitler

My German girlfriend has the surname Hitler do you think she is related to him or is Hitler a well known surname in Germany.Also if she is related should I stay going out with her

Apologies to the 9 people who have already answered my question but I could not see your answers as this question was removed a short while ago for what I think you will agree was no reason at all

If she is German, she is unlikely to be connected to Hitler as his original name was Shickelgruber. If she is English, she could be connected to some of Hitler's family who lived in Liverpool. There is no reason to believe that they shared Hitler's views and in any case he died 61 years ago. Live for the present and accept her for what she is now.

I'll give you my answer again.
Though why this Q was removed is a mystery.
Hitler is not a common name in Germany or Austria and is far more common in the USA.
Variations of Hitler in Germany would be Hittler (double T) or Heidler.
Hitler had no children and I would think the line had died out by now .
If you think a lot of your girlfriend why should her name worry you.!

As far as I know the only surviving members of Hitlers genetic family are 3 brothers who live in the US. Because they had such a difficult childhood because of who they were they all amde a vow never to marry or have children to ensure the line died out completely. As far as I'm aware they have stuck to that so your girlfriend can't be realted and even if she was she's done nothing wrong has she? I'm slightly worried that you need to ask as if you love her, it shouldn't matter whose relative she is as long as she is a good person.

It must have taken a lot of courage for her to tell you her surname so dont give her a hard time over it. Even if she is related to him (and I dont imagine she is), there is no reason to belive she would be as evil as he was.

Just for the record, Hitler was born in 1889 in Branau am Inn which was in Austria-Hungary but was under Bavarian authority. Bavaria had joined the Second Reich in 1871, so many authorities consider that he was German by birth. He joined the Bavarian Army for the 1914-1918 war, but subsequent doubts were raised about his nationality. In order to be qualified for public office, he became a naturalised German in the winter of 1932-33, so was definitely not Austrian during his period in power.
