During this time, it was common for Bards to travel from village to village to perform songs and recite oral history and news.
The importance of these travelling performers declined with the arrival of the written word during the 5thC. AD, which meant that, for the first time, history was written down and the words of songs recorded. (Two of the "Great Poems" in Welsh History, Blw Swd Sws and Tedi Baerr are thought to date from this period). This marked a major transition in Celtic musical history, as things went from Bard to verse, however, an uprising led by Col. Twm Parcwr succesfully re-established the importance of the Bards.
