What does 'conk' mean and also what is the proper definition of '...' ?

The word for the "..." used to show that words in a quote have been deleted, or used to show an incomplete sentence is ELLIPSIS.


For definitions, check a dictionary. There are several online. Conk could mean a blow to the head, among other things. I think there is a game like marbles played with conkers. Conked hair was fashionable among african americans several decades ago -- I think it was a curling technique.

I always thought it was another saying for nose.

Conk (n) - Surname of the Duke of Normandy who invaded England in 1066. First name William. He came from a family who historically had a reputation for hiring out spies - hence the expression that someone had been 'Putting the Conk in where it wasn't wanted'.

In British English, 'conk' is - as Boo says - usually employed as a slang word for 'nose', probably based on the name of the conch shell, which I suppose a nose vaguely resembles! It can also mean the head or a blow to the nose or head. With 'out', as in 'the engine conked out', it means stopped working.
