Why are teachers training days called INSET?

It's IN SErvice Training for teachers.

When my daughter was little she used to call them insect days and always asked what teachers did on these days.

She's now training to be a...............................

They used to be called B Days, partly after Mr Baker the Education Minister at the time, and partly as a pun on 'bidet' because everybody knew what they were but nobody knew how to use them.

And I thought they were Incest days, no wonder my wife gave me strange looks as she went off to school!!!!
