Question Author
Rue was a question in a competition I entered.
Question: What is the everyday phrase, saying or name using 'Rue". Their correct answer was "Are you ready".
It still means nothing to me
Rue has two meanings, to regret is one. The other is the name of an evergreen shrub. I was quite happy with that until I saw your sentence 'Are you ready?' Not only is it not the meaning of rue, but it doesn't even contain the word. Could you have looked at the wrong answer?

Question Author
No, the answer was right, just don't understand what they were meaning by that question. Another question before that was exactly the same but using the word "Time", the answer was "Time Out"???????.....who knows. Maybe it's a South African thing [haahaa]
Ah! Now I understand. I used to work with a South African. I used to nod occasionally because I never knew what he was talking about.
Are you ready? is not a South African thing, it's just a play on the words and letters, it's like sms text message: R U red E - the E should be red, it makes sense when you look at it like that
Have you ever heard the saying" Marry in May and you rue for aye" Meaning you'll regret it for ever or so the saying goes!!!!!
