I always thought it was as$ed. The first one doesn't really make sense?
yes, I always said 'can't be ar$ed'
I've a pal who says "can't be asked" but she's Bengali. It may be the way some English folk pronounce "ask" as in ahsk wi a long "a."
The saying: "I can't be ar$ed' is related to phrases such as 'shift your ar$e', ar$e about' and 'get off your ar$e'...that is, for some reason, it's one's derrire that has to get involved in the activity rather than one's whole self! So, the verb 'to be ar$ed' is just an aspect of that and - if you "can't be" - it just means you can't be bothered to get off your bottom, stand up and take action. 'Ask' doesn't come into the matter.
